3.3V/5V universal is nice to have, but your schematic only switches the 5V path.
Most universal is to give users more choice of operation
For USB-UART it is also useful to have P5.4 on CON4, for target RESET/DTR use cases.
This shows the problems with SOP8 package.
The overall PCB is not smaller, but the single spare pin really limits the functions.
Better would be to use SOP16, to allow RTS/CTR/DTR/DCD plus Power control options.
However, even SOP16 lacks XTALI/XTALO pins for accurate BAUD setting.
That makes TSSOP20/QFN20 the best smallest package for best performance USB-UART.
The STC8H8K64U shows DMA support on UART, lacking in STC2K08U.
The new STC8H2K32U is cheaper than STC8H8K64U, but seems to lack UART-DMA ?
